Disturbed Show Review

Disturbed have stood the test of time. Emerging at the peak of the nu-metal
craze, most were easy to write them off as one-hit wonders. Now as more time
passes it seems to become more evident that these guys are able to make a
career out of it and continue to remain afloat in the ever fickle world of
music consumers.

Having sold out two consecutive nights at DC's legendary 930 Club, this was
my first time seeing them since their early tour with Taproot several years
back. Probaly did not pick a good show to write a review on. Despite on
their good days putting on solid performances, front man David Drainman was
'sick as a dog' and it showed. His voice slightly raspy and giving out once
or twice as he tried to hit a few notes, and several minutes worth of in
between banter at a time to rest his voice, this wasn't their best night.
But credit is due where it needs to be given in that he stuck it out all the
way through.

The group opened things up with "Liberate" before spending over an hour
tackling the hits such as "Down With The Sickness", "Stricken", "Stupidy"
and "Prayer", amongst choice selections and fan favorites such as "Fear". In
between to rest his voice Drainman ventured into his familiar opinions on
politics, saying he couldn't resist being in DC after all. While I'm not
particularly a fan of injecting politics into music (unless your a political
band), I do give a certain amount of respect willing to put an opinion out
there that is sure to open you up to ridicule and even upsetting some of
your fan base. Overall the message to take away from all of it that I
whole-heartedly agree with was what happening to letting people be people as
long as its not hurting anyone else?

Support came from local favorites Dog Fashion Disco, who suffered through
some sound troubles but pulled through, premiering a new song and closing
with a Metallica cover.

Second up was Battle For Ozzfest TV show winners A Dozen Furies, who,
despite not really being too big on their music, put on a good show and are
some solid musicianship.
