New Music: Pet Shop Boys - Pandemonium
I must preface this review with the following: Pet Shop Boys studio albums are fantastic, and Pet Shop Boy live releases have always been very touch and go for me, with editing that often seemed to suck the life out of the performance. But with the release of Pandemonium, the group have put together a much more enjoyable package.
Captured during a December 2009 performance at London’s O2 Arena, the only thing more visually stimulating than the 02’s architecture was the spectacle Pet Shop Boys had going on inside. Bursting out both the new hits from Yes and supplemented by some of the most iconic synth-pop songs that have ever graced pop culture… the duo serve not only as icons for the gay community but an impressive chapter in pop music.
The sound mix is nice, nothing over-produced but still packing the glossy synth found on studio recordings. The video editing from the DVD portion also is well done, avoiding suffering the choppy editing of many concert DVD’s succumb too. When your main complain is that “Opportunities” doesn’t make an appearance anywhere, you know you have an enjoyable release.
