New Music: Duran Duran - Seven & The Ragged Tiger [Special Edition]
It is hard to say which is the better album with the trio of Duran Duran, Rio and Seven & The Ragged Tiger just delivering a tidal wave of quality music in the early 80’s. While this probably could of just merged into the Duran Duran (Special Edition) review downstream, Seven & The Ragged Tiger is deserving of its own special mention.
The digital remastering job is one again welcomed and breathes some fresh breath into the increasingly aging original recordings. The album a lone takes up the first disc, with the second disc dipping into the non-album singles, b-sides live takes, and several different remixes. In comparison to the wealth of unearthed material on the self-titled special edition it can seem a bit underwhelming, but unless you have everything and anything down to the singles box sets, the material will probably be fresh and at minimum provide a concise overview of a decent chunk of the good stuff.
The most enticing part of the purchase though is the DVD side, which feature the previously unavailable As The Lights Go Down concert program, no longer having to track down a bootleg. It features the same concerts filmed for the Arena video, but edited down to a one hour program featuring just the music and different edits than those found on Arena. Top Of Pops performances and promotional music videos from that era are also included for added viewing pleasure.
Buy ‘em both.
