Live: Sia
Several years on and still getting a ton of mileage out of “Breath Me”, Sia continues to expand her reach. Whether it be with Zero7 or helping out Christina Aguilera on tracks from her new CD, her increasing presence is welcomed not only for the talent involved but the beaming personality that comes with it.
Sia recently came through town again to the lovely Rams Head On Stage for a rare seated dinner theater kind of show. Having caught her plenty at larger standing room only venues in the region, sitting down at a table with a nice glass of wine was a good change of pace and probably the best environment to see her in yet. The black light outfits and futuristic neon flower-esque pieces have been shelved and replaced with a much more immediate intimacy.
While slightly sick, the audience picked up the slack on the high notes that couldn’t be hit on a set that rolled through a selection of tracks from “Colour The Small Ones”, “Some People Have Real Problems” and filling the set in with flourishes from her increasingly upbeat sounding upcoming album “We Are Born” (in stores June 22nd). Tracks like “The Girl You Lost To Cocaine” and “Lentil” provided shining moments to a set, with Sia managing to get to the music between all the hugs and gifts bestowed upon her between songs.
While the music draws you in and is just as enchanting in the live environment recorded, it really is the playful banter between songs that keeps you engaged with a personality that is the polar opposite of the sour mood set by tracks like the increasing ubiquitous “Breath Me”.
