New Music: We Are The Fallen [Tear The World Down]

Try as they may, a group consisting mainly of former members of Evanescence and a strong raven-haired vocalist is just not going to win the comparison war. We Are The Fallen (originally “The Fallen”) probably don’t help matters by naming themselves after the wildly successful debut album of their former group either.  If one wants to talk about how “different” it is from your old group, it is probably not the best idea to make blatant references to it in ways that define who you are as a band…. like the name.

Musically, the results are pretty solid. It sounds like a continuation of where Evanescence left off with their first album, and that isn’t a bad thing. Carly Smithson can give Amy Lee a run for her money with little effort, and overall the nearly identical feel to Evanescence probably should be embraced. It is a defining point of who they are, and while The Open Door had moments, it mostly suffered from the sophomore slump. With somewhat disappointing results and all quiet on the other front, this provides an opportunity to really re-invigorate and tap into that fan base to quickly build momentum and expand quickly back onto the radio in force.

The strings, keyboards, crunchy guitars and rock hooks haven’t lost their edge over the years, and the ability for the group to deliver radio hits seems set to continue.
