Alone, Jealous & Stoned
Ah, The Secret Machines. A band I’ve long admired from afar but never got to experience the intimate performance that have made them the critically acclaimed band that they are today. Well, times are a changing, and I’m moving on up, because I caught their recent performance at the 930 Club.
The lone act of the evening as they were not doing many other dates, there was no merchandise, no gimmicks, just three guys and a stage. Kicking off with rousing rendition of “Alone, Jealous & Stoned”, the pace was set for the evening that was almost a continuous musical endeavor.
Taking a few cues from past touring mates Interpol, The Secret Machines spent most of the evening hiding in the shadows behind a massive wall of lights that added to a show that was entertaining and enjoyable. Much like the Dresden Dolls, one is left thinking, “How can three people (two of which sitting) be so damn enjoyable?”.
The Secret Machines are the real deal, playing for well over an hour through a well balanced selection of tracks from their first album and their latest “Ten Silver Drops” (out now, Warner Bros.).
Check them out as they are hitting the road now, and can be found at the center of a club near you. Hands down an entirely underrated band meant to be experienced live.
