The January Re-Hash

January has been a slow month on the release end of things, so it isn’t the most extensive list of stuff to check out. I hear Stars Of Track & Field is pretty good, but I haven’t checked it out yet. Because I’m cool like that. Or maybe I’m uncool because I haven’t, either or. There is always February. Brief overviews after the jump

The Good, The Bad & The Queen - The Good, The Bad & The Queen
(EMI)

Give the roster of talent involed on this release and their previous efforts (Blur/Gorillaz, The Clash, The Verve, etc.), most would expect probably a more raucous affair then what the end result is. Melancholy and lush landscapes decorate this album, that for most will be a slow growing effort to be appreciated several listens in. It’s not going to serve as a satisfying effort for anyone buying it expecting it to sound like any members previous band’s.

Madonna - The Confessions Tour Live From London CD/DVD (WBR)
What a tour for quite the album. For an album that rivaled my favorite Madonna album to that point (”Ray Of Light” for those that don’t know), and in some aspects blew it out of the water, missing the tour in person was hard to swallow, and after catching the DVD, leaves me kicking myself in the shins. Always a class act that spares no expense to entertain, Madonna acts and looks nowhere near her age on this “Confessions” heavy set list.

Mew - Frengers (Epic)
Epic release their debut album, the predecessor to the “Glass Hands & The Flying Kite”. As always, the creation is a beautiful rock album creating sound scapes second only to their first album. From the first listen on ward, you will enjoy a unique experience from a band that should be getting more attention then they do.

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away (Sub Pop)
Ah, dreamy. With 105,000 copies sold first week out of the gate, the indie darlings finding fame in Garden State reach out with one of their best offerings to date, and big indie sales to back it up. With the rise of indies (even after it leaked almost four months in advance), the group are talented and reaping the rewards.

Clap your Hands Say Yeah - One Loud Thunder
Lily Allen - Alright Still (Capitol)
