Kill Hannah Has Lips
To say things for Kill Hannah have been easy since signing to a major label after much buzz from their native region a few years ago would be misleading in the least. After a few behind the scenes shifts, and a solid synth-laden rock album fresh out of the gate, things were looking up for the group with recent tours with Mindless Self Indulgence and now The Pink Spiders, where I caught them last at Recher Theatre.
Not meant in a mean way, but it was definitely a tour co-headlining by two bands that were big buzz bands that have never quite capitalized into the sales everybody was expecting, and rumors of unrest are already abound. Regardless of all the behind the scenes bull shit that could bog a band down and take their toll in front of the audience, Kill Hannah are continuing to refine their live performance, with each time I’ve seen them, the group becoming tighter and tighter. While most try to decide whether Matt Devine is a girl or boy or not, this whole group of pretty boys certainly are learning how to rock out.
With the live shows bringing a new dynamic to the band, the group tore through a whose-who of tracks from their two album deep catalog, with a punch and beat that comes off much more in person than on CD. While they have no ‘hits’ per-say the group played through all the fan favorites from their relatively small, but dedicated and hopefully growing fan base.
Either way, as a whole, most of the tracks album are pretty solid, and if they come through your town, the ticket prices are relatively reasonable to make it worth the price of admission.
