Alpha Dust

Ah, good old Sevendust. One of those bands I’ve had tickets in hand to see several times but something always comes up to screw me out of seeing the show. Well I guess patience pays off, because it was certainly one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve been to in quite awhile.

From the moment these guys step on stage you can see the appreciation these guys have in their eyes that anybody even showed up to see them at all, and throughout the course of the night you could tell the unbridled energy and a complete lack of pretentiousness that clouds one too many rock-n-roll shows these days.

The group stuck close to a set heavy on the ‘oldies’ and crowd-pleasers, with a tasteful interjection of material from their latest release “Alpha” (out now) that had the crowd rocking out to their hearts content from beginning to end. The band remained playful throughout, calling guitarist Sonny Mayo on stage to say “hi” to his mom, and pointing out their appreciation of a small child on their parents back rocking out with everyone else. One of the more poignant moments of the evening included a a-capella version of “Angel’s Son” that left guitarist Sonny Mayo’s mom in tears up in the balcony.

They tour, and they tour often, and they now come with the [mostly worthless] Soundnova.com seal of approval to check ‘em out when they do.
