Live Review: Hellyeah

Well what do you say about a show that lasted about a good 25 minutes and of course being a supporting act had ‘em screwed on sound from the get go? Well you could say that it rocked pretty hard. Despite pulling out possibly every cheesy cliche the metal world has to offer, the band is at least a collective of pretty bad ass metal veterans.

While most of the bands throughout the day at Family Values had varying to non-existant levels of stage presence (I’ll leave it up to your imagination to figure out who), where the sound quality lacked for the group, the rock star attitude more then filled up the stage…. and the crowd noticed. The group roared through a short but sweet set of course kicking off with the obvious “Hellyeah” and moving right on through with tracks like “Goddamn”, “Rotten To The Core” and the latest single “Alcohaulin’ Ass”. Their hit “You Wouldn’t Know” served as the obvious closer. The exchange between the crowd and band was representative of a set that saw both groups feeding off each others energy, with Vinnie Paul back in full force and taking time to play the hype man.

It’s a short but sweet review, much like the show. A headline tour (like the one I missed earlier this year) will be much appreciated, as a longer set and a complimentary mix to create a more blistering sound will match the already present stage show. A place with air conditioning instead of a 90+ degree day with a good amount of humidity would probably be better to.
