Check It: The Birthday Massacre
The Birthday Massacre return, picking up exactly where they left off with Walking With Strangers. There isn’t really an expansion into any territory they haven’t already been, but at the end of the day, why mess with something that is working so well for them?
Many years on the road and a few good breaks have found them in the tender loving care of Dave Ogilvie for their latest release. Those that have become accustomed to the lush musical landscapes of sweeping synths and often crunchy guitar overtones with the appropriate female vocals will find all the qualities that have built up their underground fan base have not left the building. A few tracks from previous efforts pop up and continue to go right along with the flow of the groups newer works. A danceable good time that I’m sure will be overplayed at whatever local goth night comes around until that new Bauhaus album comes out.
I start yapping about them just around the time that they have announced a new North American tour with Mindless Self Indulgence, starting in April of 2008. Just an FYI. They put on a pretty bad ass show for those that want to know. Not that I’m assuming you want to know, just figured, since you are reading this… you MIGHT want to know. If not, my bad.
A Soundnova two thumbs up. (Does Ebert still have that trademarked?)
