Live: Danzig

Ah, Danzig. A man who looks like he could pummel me in so many ways, or at minimum let me suffocate under the weight of muscle on just one arm. Well, that guy was back through town for one last go at it for a little while.

Thats right, this is a review about his tour kick off on October 23 (2007!!!) at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Thats right, I’m a procrastinator at times (which really means life getting in the way of the finer details), but what can you do. As long as I deliver, the wait seems not as bad sticking someone up entirely.

Lots of people seemed to leave the show, well, disappointed. What had been billed as Danzig plays Misfits songs seemed to be anything but as the set continued to roll on and on, encores included, not a Misfits song was to be found. What had been billed as “playing classic songs by the Misfits and Danzig” turned out to be Danzig with some stuff I couldn’t really recognize (recent tunes I’m assuming), some stuff from the first four Danzig albums, etc., etc.

The fan energy seemed timid through most of the openers and of course picked up a few notches when Danzig took the stage, but over all remained rather timid, only aggravated when many didn’t get what they come for (those Misfits song). Something just seemed somewhat off the whole evening of what should of been a rather intense show. At the very least got to check out “How The Gods Kill” and “Mother”, so I can rest easy for any desired Danzig itching for awhile.

All in all, the ultimate conclusion is Danzig still has what it takes to put on a rather solid show, and he seemed to be relatively enjoying himself until a fateful incident that led to him no longer being on the stage and meeting the ground in a very unintended way. The end result being an injury that seemed to plague him for at least several more dates of the tour. It seemed to be rather anti-climatic and a bad way for his last set of dates for apparently a long long time, but I guess that is how it goes.

For whatever the down time may be, there is still plenty of Danzig to go around including re-issues and reprints a plenty as well as “The Lost Tracks Of Danzig”.
