April 08 Rehash
Things picked up a bit in April, with catchy pop and irreverent hooks proving to be the defining releases of April 2008.
Kylie Minogue - X (Capitol)
After a triumphant return from a well fought and well publicized battle with cancer, Kylie is back in fine form. A pioneer in her own right, this albums sparkles with pop gems from front to back. From the opening notes of “2 Hearts” until its conclusion, all that has been great about Kylie Minogue for so long is reaffirmed.
M83 - Saturdays = Youth (Nettwerk)
M83 return with yet again a lush sonic masterpiece. Reminding me at times of My Bloody Valentine meets Cocteau Twins. While a departure from the bulk of their back catalog that is sure to leave division amongst the faithful fans, the album is a beautiful testament to the good ol’ days. It provides the soundtrack to the flashback of the Saturday’s of my youth (no pun of any kind intended), with the atmosphere perfect for reminiscing of days gone by.
Robyn - Robyn (Interscope)
It’s been a long time since anyone has heard from this Swedish pop star. But all that is good is worth the wait. The album bounces here and there in style, but all ends up in [often times] flamboyant pop goodness. It’s fun, often irreverent, and often tongue in cheek take on life that leaves a smug smile on your face all the way until the end.
