Live: Slipknot

Slipknot continued their rampage across the world in support of their latest album “All Hope Is Gone” this past February (the 13th to be exact).

As the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut fast approaches, the band that not too many thought would go anywhere has managed to carve out quite a niche for themselves. In a town and a venue that is more often half empty than not, the group drew in a sizable amount of the affectionately known “Maggots”.

After impressive sets from label mates Trivium and ‘Welcome Home’ rockers Coheed & Cambria, the red curtain went down and a half hour later you could see the members drift on a cramped stage filled with their “S” logo many times over, hydraulic drums and percussion kits and a rotating cast of backdrops set the stage for the controlled chaos that always engulfs a Slipknot show.

While most of the vomiting and masturbation has been replaced these days with some simple dry humping, there is no doubt that from the opening notes of “(Sic)” to the closing of “Spit It Out” that this is a band that still has it and should continue to dominate for a good time to come. With a rather well-balanced set, once is able to follow the growth of the band from metal mainstays to more nuanced and melody driven radio friendly efforts such as “Before I Forget” and “Psychosocial”.

They continue to tour Europe and America throughout the rest of 2009, so be sure to check them out should the opportunity arise.
