Live: The Crystal Method
It’s been a long time since Vegas hit the scene. (twelve years to be exact this coming September.) A lot has changed since the California duo became one of the most formidable electronic artists in town, with one of the biggest selling electronic albums ever to their credit.
Popular tastes change, future albums are often hit and miss when you are compared to your magnum opus and just plain luck affect any artist as time trudges on. The Crystal Method is no exception to these apparent laws of the business. While the mass gathering has faded to some extent from the scene as a whole, these gentleman have managed to still remain relevant in many ways (including a continued success in commercial and movie features).
All this culminates in what brings them Rams Head Live! in Baltimore, MD (May 12th) in support of their latest album Divided By Night. With a stage packed with more visual stimulation than one room can hardly contain, the duo took the stage following a brief video projection to show off their first single “Drown In The Now” and then proceeded to bring a visual and sonic presentation dressed to impress. While the audience was comparatively thin with what the venue is capable of holding, it was evident that those who passed on the genre as a whole by the late time the late 90s came and went were the ones that missed out. As the bass pounded and the strobe lights often times blinded, the group embarked on a set that was a nice woven tapestry of past and present. When all was said and done and the obligatory “Trip Like I Do” faded from the speakers, the group managed to prove they remain as vibrant and interesting as ever.
While the tour is winding down (visit their Myspace for their current schedule), those that missed out this time take note to remember to catch them next time around or at least relive moments in your with their recently released star-studded album, Divided By Night.
