May 09 Rehash

This month’s offerings are rather slim, but what it does offer up is two artists who wear their hearts on their sleeves in both the lyrical and musical sense of the phrase.

Jeremy Enigk - OK Bear (Lewis Hollow)
The former Sunny Day Real Estate returns with another full-fledged solo effort to date. Leaving behind the sweeping attempts at orchestral arrangements found on his last release for a more direct modern-rock stripped down approach, Jeremy leaves himself more exposed then any of his previous releases. While clocking in at less than forty minutes he puts his clothes back on rather quickly, but not before leaving a marked impression that the Jeremy Enigk is all grown up.

Marilyn Manson - The High End Of Low (Interscope)
With his long term partner in crime back as his wingman and Chris Vrenna rounding it out to make a terrifying trio, Manson returns with a shot across the bow in an ever desensitized America. While wallowing in self-loathing seems to be more of a theme the past few post-Dita album cycles, Twiggy and crew bring back a worthy musical back drop to the fold. From ball busting rockers like “Pretty As a Swastika” and “We’re From America” to more stark arrangements such as the first half of the intro track “Devour”, “Into A Fire” and “Unkillable Monster”.
