Live: Dredg

Dredg rank up there with Mew as one of the most criminally underrated bands of recent years. They recently rolled through Recher Theater in Baltimore, MD, and it served as my first experience of a band that had until then been relegated to plastic discs.

By the end, I must say that there is absolutely no justice to be found for this band on the recorded medium. Anything that has been recorded, and even live CD’s, is just on an entirely different level below their live performance… and that is saying something.

Besides getting on my good side relatively early on by busting out “I Don’t Know”, a favorite of mine from their latest album The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion, Dredg are a tight knit unit that while mostly uninteresting visually, allow you the luxury of literally closing your eyes and getting immersed in the sonic pleasure of it all.

I have been a big fan of the group since the El Cielo days, but find it may of been luck that I had the opportunity to catch them on their new tour with a set list heavily geared toward their latest effort. While the title may take awhile to remember, many of the songs have a quality that will leave them echoing in your head to hum a long to for a good time after.

A very memorable experience, and worth repeating myself when I say they are criminally underrated.
