Live: Incubus
I’ve had a long and pleasant history with Incubus. Like a fine wine they’ve certainly gotten better with age. From Make Yourself to Morning View up through their latest Light Grenades and the greatest hits Monuments & Melodies, you can see a band that has not only grown up from raucous teenagers to sophisticated adults, the song maturity has kept pace as well. I’m not sure anyone could of seen what was to come around the time of S.C.I.E.N.C.E..
And that leads us to a lovely evening at Merriweather Post Pavilion on their latest headline excursion. I’ve had the pleasure of catching them at least once an album cycle (minus the last), and this is a band that consistently delivers in the live arena. I’ve yet to ever see them have an ‘off night’.
The evening was great, especially if one was just there for the radio hits because that is what they delivered. From a completely understated and casual entrance flowing into “Pardon Me” and a rapid fire release of “Megalomaniac”, “Anna Molly” “Stellar”, “Love Hurts” and Morning View stalwarts “Nice To Know You” and “Circles”.
A mostly acoustic breakdown of “Drive”, “Make Yourself” and “Dig” led to some lesser-known hits and tracks form Light Grenades and Morning View before an encore of new tracks from the Monuments & Melody release.
All in all, a solid performance behind a solid release from a band that has yet to disappoint.
