New Music: Foo Fighters [Greatest Hits]
It’s hard for a musician to reach critical mass once in a career, yet a lone twice (or thrice?). Dave Grohl has been blessed with both the talent and good fortune to be able to do so. From Nirvana, the Foo Fighters and onto his present day inclusion as part of Them Crooked Vultures… he has long since proven himself as a musician around for the long haul. Greatest Hits documents the “first chapter” in the life of the Foo Fighters.
All the standards from the self-titled through Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace are featured, a trip down memory lane for a group that has churned out the best of what mainstream rock is capable of offering. Riffs and hooks galore take the listener through a 15 year period that found Grohl emerge from behind the kit of one the most iconic band of the 90’s to a force all his own.
While “All My Life”, “Everlong”, “The Pretender”, “My Hero” and every other Foo track you’ve heard 16 million times should you still listen to rock radio are good enough to stand on their own, lead single and album exclusive “Wheels” once again shows that the hits just keep on coming. “Word Forward” also provides new material for the album, it is not the band at their strongest, and “Everlong” acoustic illuminates a group that is often at their best when stripped down to just the basics.
