New Music: Amanda Blank - I Love You
Amanda Blank is probably not a girl one would bring home to mom. She can hold her own with the best of ‘em, and can be as lovely as she is raunchy… simultaneously. On her debut I Love You, one finds out whether she lives up to the hype of being the next M.I.A. or Santigold.
Produced by the likes of Diplo, Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio and XXXChange, her electro-rap is delivered at a rapid fire pace over subtle pulsing beats that are befitting the reputation she has established herself. Her boy Spank Rock shows up and so does a take on LL Cool J’s “I Love You”. After a string of high-profile guest spots on N.A.S.A. and Major Lazer to name a few, Amanda finally gets a platform all her own.
“Make It, Take It” and the now ubiquitous take on Romeo Void with “I Might Like You Better” are sure to blow up on the dance floor, but other parts she doesn’t seem to do herself justice. Her skill and swagger is without question, as is her ability to hold her own…. one is left hoping a sophomore release presents a more fully realized (and possibly longer) vision then I Love You presents.
