New Music: Morningwood [Diamonds & Studs]
It’s been a hot minute since Morningwood’s debut album was heard on every TV around the world courtesy of the strong writing found on hits such as “Nth Degree” and “Jetsetter”.
Many years and a new label later, the group continue down a path of power pop hooks driven by some good ol’ rock guitar riffs that will leave listeners involuntarily humming many a chorus long after the CD runs its course. Tracks like lead single “Best Of Me” (as featured on VH1’s Daisy Of Love), “Sugarbaby” and “Killer Life” show the group starting to reach their peak as song writers with hooks galore.
As one approaches the latter half of the album, you begin to enter a cluster of tracks from “That’s My Tune” to “Cat In The Box” that don’t possess the same immediate endearing nature of the top half of the album, but grow on you with subsequent listens.
It’s often dirty, gritty and pleasant all in one fell swoop.
