Discussing the future, new EP, and the chance of a lifetime
opening up the Music As A Weapon 2 tour, Deconstruct singer Skitz took a few
minutes with Digital Attak(pre-Soundnova) to answer some questions.
One of the greatest perks in this band is that guitarist Joe Fraulob owns his
own studio. We constantly write and record new songs, so at the time we are
currently recording tracks for the next release. No time frame for it's release
has been set as of yet, but we anticipate sometime at the end of the year.
Right now our focus is going for adds to college radio, and making "Sign Of
Things To Come" a success for Deconstruct and start-up indie label
Apocalypse Records, who released the EP in mid-April 2003.
It's still up in the air right now. We'd like to release an LP for the next one,
but either way, we'll be happy. Our goal is to grow with each release, so on our
sophmore round, look for the KO.
It went exceptionally well for us. We rehearsed our asses of for that one, about
five nights a week. The reception was insane. The house lights were off, we
walked out on stage, and the crowd went fucking crazy. It was a dream come true,
really.
Everybody involved with the MAAW2 tour were great people, and ultra-pro. I think
there was maybe 15 minutes between each band. And the lights, you would not
believe how insanely grateful we are to Disturbed for those! And for everything
they did for us!
That we are there for those people, to connect with them, entertain them, leave
them with something they won't forget. Pretty much, we just want to rock
everybody the fuck out!
Without getting to deep into it, it's basically about learning to deal with
loss, and letting go. I try to leave my lyrics open to everyone, and let them
decide for themselves what it is about. For somebody else listening to it, it
might mean something totally different that they connect with, and I would never
want to take that away from them.
Darren Minter & Joe Fraulob had been in a few bands together previously.
Their other singer basically quit and left them hanging.
I was in a band that was doing well, but wasn't happy with, so I decided to go
audition for Joe. I went down to his studio and sang on a track called
"Snap", and Joe said "Alright man, your it! But if you quit on me
like my last singer, I will track you down..." Joe and I came up with the
name Deconstruct and we started busting ass recording songs.
At the time we were having problems with the bass player. He wanted all the
perks with none of the work, so we told him to kick rocks!
Joe had filled in on guitar for this band that VeNeSSa was in at the time. He
was like, "Hey, I know this girl who shreds on bass, and has rock star
written all over her!", and that was the birth of the current line-up.
We basically started out with this sound. The track I auditioned to was a lot
different than what's on the EP. The track "New Skin" was already
written minus lyrics/vocals when I came in, so all I had to do with that was
leave my imprint, but the other three tracks just seemed to come together.
The one thing I love being in a band with Joe is the way he can adapt his style.
He's been in thrash, blues, and rock bands so he's got a lot of styles he can
draw from. I don't think I've ever worked with a guitar player who is able to
hear a certain aspect of my voice, and compliment it without being selfish about
his parts. It always about the song, and the mood it sets.
Hahaha, if I start getting into this one, the scroll bar on your site will go on
infinitely. Everything we've ever heard and loved has been an influence to us!
From Maiden and Priest, to classical music, to Faith No More and Pantera. Oh
yeah, and Alice In Chains for certain. Way too many to list them all.
We try to make our music cutting edge without losing the validity of tried and
true music. We definitely don't want to get lumped into the nu-metal label that
people are so fond of throwing around lately, because we try to stay in touch
with what first made us love rock and metal!
?
Well, for starters, I have to say that she rocks harder than any guy bass player
I've been in a band with. In the bass playing aspect of the question, I'd have
to say "She might as well have balls, because she plays like she
does." She's also well versed in classical piano.
Other than that, I think she brings a sexiness and attitude that shines. People
see it when they see her play.
She's basically one of the guys, with a really hot body. We all hang out on a
personal level, and nothing is really different than interacting with a male
bass player, except the fact that you have to turn around when she's changing
into her stage clothes!
DECONSTRUCT would like to thank Corey and www.digitalattak.com(pre-Soundnova.com) for taking the
time to interview and review us! - sKiTz, Joe, VeNeSSa, Darren
