Kingdom of Snakes Bill Gaal
Conducted By: Corey Evans

While Nothingface has bit the dust, exciting new offspring are brewing, Cold White Christ (with Sickles and Maxwell, a temporary name), and Kingdom Of Snakes. As the group just enter the studio to record their EP, Bill took some time out to answer some questions about what to expect from his new group, one of the first times he has done so.

KINGDOM OF SNAKES IS:
Bill Gaal (Vocals/Guitar) Jason Blackmore (Vocals/Guitar)
Matt Holt (Vocals/Guitar) Jason Gerkin (Drums)

A couple weeks into the first recordings for Kingdom Of Snakes, how has it been going so far?

Its going really good. We are getting started on vocals this week and after that there are a few guitar overdubs to do, then mixing. It should be done by the end of July.

How can you compare this music to what Nothingface was doing?

Its a lot different than Nothingface. For one, There are three singers, so that changes everything. The stuff we are doing could be compared to the more melodic stuff that Nothingface was doing, but I'm a much different guitar player than Tom (Nothingface) is. We have Matt Holt and Jason Blackmore singing and playing guitar as well, so there are three very distinct singers in this band. It makes for a really interesting mix, lots of harmonies.

Is it odd recording for the first time in a long time without Tom and Tommy around?

I spent a lot of time with those guys over the last ten years in and out of the studio, so its kind of refreshing to try something new. Our drummer Jason Gerkin is a monster, the drums sound amazing.

Bill Kennedy did fabulous on 'Skeletons', how is it working with him once again?

Working with Bill is always amazing. We spent a lot of time developing a pretty unique guitar sound on the recording, he is the master when it comes to guitars!!! Bill and I are in the beginning stages of starting a production company, so it only makes sense for him to do the KINGDOM OF SNAKES stuff.

With touring slated for the fall, how do you intend to fill up the set? Some covers, maybe the occassional Nothingface tune?

We have alot of music already written and demo'd, so we'll have plenty of songs to fill out a set.(sorry, no Nothingface...)

How is the label/distribution situation going? Any good leads or just an independent release on hand?

Our management will be taking care of that as soon as this E.P. is finished.

Going from 'Perfect Enemy' to 'Kingdom Of Snakes', what is the new name intended to symbolize?

"KINGDOM OF SNAKES" is a name that Blackmore came up with. It can mean anything you want it to, but maybe it refers to the music industry?.......who knows.

The site says 'Audio Clips Coming May 2004' and the time has long come and gone, how much longer can people expect to wait for something to formulate?

Sorry about that. There will be stuff up by the end of July.

You recently moved to the west coast with Matt Holt, how has it been adjusting to the 3 hour time difference and everything else?

It hasn't been to difficult adjusting to beautiful weather every day. The 3 hour thing wasn't a big deal after a month. I love it out here, its great to be near everything i need.

With now being closer to the epiccenter of music then ever before, having had a falling out with TVT, and everything else, what is your take on the current state of music?

It seems like we are heading into a period where its going to be alot easier to get your band out there. There are so many ways to get your music to people these days, I think its going to give some pretty cool bands a chance to be heard. Probably not a lot of money out there for new bands, but that will force everyone to be more creative with what they do.

Broading from the heavy metal to a more melodic touch, what have you been listening to lately?

I've been listening to Iggy Pop and the Stooges, the Beatles, the Eagles(Ilove Joe Walsh), American Head Charge, Kingdom of Snakes, the Who, Tom Waits. Thats pretty much just a list of the stuff I have in my car right now.

I know one of the times we met Tom was blasting anywhere from Demon Hunter to Weezer in the dressing room, could you say your likings are just as diverse?

My tastes are pretty diverse as well. Thats probably why we started Nothingface to begin with, we both loved tons of different stuff and wanted to be able to play any of it.

What are your future plans outside of the band, do you intend to once again persue producing and engineering?

I will be engineering and producing while I'm in this band and afterwards. Right now the plan is for Bill Kennedy and I to work together.

A multitude of rumors, as is always the case, have circulated about the demise of your previous group, is it safe to say the head is severed from Nothingface for good with no reunion in site, or never say never?

We are all having a great time with our new bands, so I don't imagine there will be a Nothingface reunion any time soon.

Cathing up with current events, Matt certainly spoke alot of politics on 'Skeletons', what has been your take on all that is going on in the world?

Its getting pretty crazy out there. I don't pretend to know exactly what is happening, since i get my news from CNN or MSNBC. I have a hard time believing that I'm ever getting the full picture of whatss really happening in the world.

For humor's sake, do you think Jennifer Lopez will surpass Liza Minnelli in amount of marriages?

I have no idea, but it seems like Jennifer Lopez will be alive alot longer, so she might be able to win that one.

Last question, and a (not so)tough decision everybody has to make in the coming months...Bush, Kerry, or fuck em' both?

I'm cool with Kerry. Bush should never have been president to begin with.
